Step-by-step setup
Open the Google Play Store
It is on the home screen, or under Apps on Google TV. Confirm you are signed in to a Google account first, because the store will let you browse without one and then fail at install.
Install an IPTV player
Search for TiViMate IPTV Player or IPTV Smarters Pro. If this is going on a television rather than a tablet, take TiViMate: the guide is the entire reason it exists and it is markedly better than the alternatives.
Add a playlist or Xtream login
TiViMate asks you to Add playlist and then offers Xtream Codes login. Smarters phrases it as Login with Xtream Codes API. Either way you supply the same server address, username and password from your Tivo8k message.
Wait for channels and guide to load
It now downloads the channel list and the programme data, which takes a minute or two on a first run and is quicker afterwards. Name the playlist if prompted; it only matters if you later add a second one.
Organise your channels
Turn off categories you will never open, pin the ones you will, and set the language. TiViMate keeps this under Settings, then Playlists. Ten minutes here is the difference between a usable television and an unmanageable list.
Common errors and fixes
Play Store does not show the app
Some cheaper boxes run the phone build of Android, which hides TV-only listings. Sideload the APK through Downloader instead, following the same sequence as the Firestick guide on this site.
EPG is empty
Let the first download finish before judging it. Then trigger Update EPG from the app settings. The guide source travels with your Xtream login, though support can send a standalone URL for the few players that insist on one.

If you buy a generic box, insist on at least 2 GB of RAM and an Ethernet port, and treat the specification sheet with suspicion.
